To become an immigration lawyer, you'll need to complete at least seven years of schooling and be licensed to practice law. The first step to becoming an immigration lawyer is to earn a bachelor's degree. Your undergraduate degree does not have to be in any specific area, but you might choose an area of study that will give you a strong foundation in critical reading, writing and thinking, such as English or political science.
